In 2023,the California Legislature enacted SB 553, a groundbreaking workplace violence prevention law that amends California Labor Code Section 6401.9 to require public and private employers to develop, implement, and annually train employees and supervisors on a written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (“WVPP”). Employers must implement a compliant plan and provide the first round of annual training by July 1, 2024. This presentation will provide an overview of the law, the elements of an effective WVPP and necessary training, and provide additional guidance on ways employers may comply with the requirements of the new law.
